I have got a chance to work at previous www.aitecs.com, now Moog as software tester for five months. Worked with software for infusion pumps. It was a great experience for me as a tester and want to share with some impressions. 1. Same rules. The first lesson I learned that same rules for testing apply everywhere. Embedded software frightened a little. I thought it should be very different, and I do not know how to test. I learned that all the rules that apply to web site test, application testing, also apply to embedded software testing. Testing the software of infusion pump got me back to pure testing. Analyzing the new functionality, applying mixed of black and some white box methods, searching through requirements made me feel real tester. 2. Validation. just a quick thought about tester's role in project management and product quality. critical! project team all contributes to the project success, but the end of the process seems belonging to developers and testers. am i right?

Nightmare of a tester - you have got a software without bugs. test and can not find any :) Before every new project feel light fear not to find anything...

If you check the date of recent posts , you will see that this is the third post today. My colleague smiles - it is friday, too difficult to work when you know three days of rest are waiting ahead. Today is a reading day, so the next thing I found in one blog - testing metrics. The authour lists a few of them. the most interesting for me - " Number of customer reported Bug - As a measure of testing effectiveness". Ok. The effectiveness of testing.... Let's see - my first project here, small and my independent work as a tester. pilot project :) Total issues registered for the project - 164; Total bugs - 119; Client reported issues - 27; Client bugs - 21; Some of them seem quite 'strange' for me and I simply can not call them "bug", so will leave - 10 bugs with low priority. So, what we have for my testing effectiveness? 10 of 119? Less than 9 percent. What is the 'normal' and accepted rate? Can not find anything on that topic in the web for a mome...

Thinking about sotfware testing process and improvements, so search the web for some info. The best thing is - developing a testing maturity model. Found out, that at the moment, our company works at level 3, Initial, Phase definition and integration. Still left space for growth - 4 (management and measurement) and 5 (optimization, defect prevention and quality control). While, CMM level 2 supports only up to 3 level of TMM, the wish to go further with the TMM may have obstacles. Anyway, it was interesting to read some articles. CMM and TMM are also parallel to five phase model of an i ndividual tester's maturity growt h. not much info on that. Tester's growth and carer .

welcome to new period. the second week working as software tester. after a long break at home here we are at the office. Do not feel weak in professional sense, but staying up to 8 long hours everyday at work is something still too tough for me. now coming through adaptation plan - learning the way things are done here. and reading. no, it is not one more post with job advertisement. this time i am looking for testing position myself. all of a sudden. got a call for an interview and decided - why not. so, waiting for their answer and sending some more cv. the good news for lithuania are that software testers are more valuated. more and more ads may be seen for that position.... my week points are technology knowledge and big break in my career staying at home with the children. the most - i would like to work part time, but it is not popular here.... 6 hours a day would be perfect....

to tell the truth almost every time reading the emails sent to me asking advices on one or other question on software testing, i feel unable to help. i strongly believe that there is so plenty information in the web, starting from the software testing articles to books. all you need, just search the web and read read read.

my second baby was born a few months ago, so no software testing issues in my life at this period.

well, testing field is quite narrow, much less information in comparing tech news or sport news :) here is a site for software testing news . mostly from the Quardev Laboratories news but there are some good articles.

yesterday wrote about watched gmail new features, today thinking that we may be active testers in all software we use. last year there was an inquiry from my internet banking system on customers opinion on they features. wrote them about bug connected with reloging and pasword mix, a few months later the defect was gone! so, do not hesitate to write your proposals or bugs you see in all software you use - from stock analysis software to internet banking system. you may be a part in the development process also and contribute a lot.

well, it is not about testing, just about the development process. i use gmail.com, like it. it is interesting to see the new features emerging. changed the view from 20 messages to 100. in all windows seems ok, but not in trashbox. showing the previous 20... and it is much more difficult to delete. (yes, i delete my emails, although the gmail say the space it is enough :) ) today noticed that the view has changed - have 100 messages in the list. cool. someone informed them on the bug :) and here it is :)
