is software testing valuated?

wow, asked a question "we are the software developer company, i am working as a software tester - defect tracking, testing, quality assurance. but it is the lowest position by valuation and by salary among the all employees, all the others - consultants, programmers, etc seems to be higher. i am just wondering how it is in other companies." in one forum, and what nice answers and discussion recieved. read all here . seems, it depends on education the employee needs to work - developers are trained, testers learn while working. the next thing - what value the tester brings to the company - simple testing, or aiming to become project manager.. well, on the whole it is agreed that there is some truth in my point of view, valuated, but rather low respect, and almost no education, except specialized courses..
